From the editors of Recent Setbacks in Conservation ('our
Caxtonian uncle')
Recent
Setbacks in Conservation began in 1986 with Volume 1. In retrospect
this was a mistake, because it was demonstrated to the whole
world 14 years
later, during 'millennium' celebrations, the confusion that
can arise among
the mathematically challenged if a zero is omitted from a sequence.
Fortunately, the 21st century's recent access to time travel
will make it
possible to visit 1985 and rectify this mistake by creating
a Volume 0.
This project is/was/will be underway. Such was the demand for
Recent
Setbacks among the more discerning of the conservation community
after
Volume 0 was retroactively created that further volumes followed.
Here is
the list:
Volume 1 1985 (editor
Hugh Janus)
Volume 2 1986 (editor Lambeg
Pennywhistle)
Volume 3 1990 (editor Keith Myarth)
Volume 4 1993 (under the title
Art and Archaeology Recent Setbacks,
editor Jean-Luc De La Poutine)
Volume 5 1995 (10th anniversary
guest editorial by Hugh Junior Janus)
Volume 6 1997 (editor J.K.
Thostrang)
Volume 7 2001 (editor C.O.
Jones, special limited colour edition to
commemorate
the retirement from ICCROM of Gael de
Guichen - very rare)
Announcements of the folding of the RSC tent are
premature. Early volumes
of Recent Setbacks are out of print, and are now regarded by
many
collectors as rare books. Thanks to this website you will soon
be able to read them here at no charge. Visit the CAC website
to order later volumes, some of which are still held in stock.
